Black color-coded Brushes for Stainless Steel

Weiler Abrasives is excited to announce the start of color-coding our most popular stainless steel brushes black for easy identification, even during operation.

The product change will occur on a rolling basis. The transition of all brushes is expected to be complete in September. The color-coded brush offering will consist of six end brushes, four wire wheels, and one wire cup brush. Type 316 stainless brushes and degreased brushes are available by special order.  The color-coding will be a visual change to existing brushes, with no change to brush performance or part number.

From aerospace to the foodservice industry, eliminating cross-contamination of valuable stainless steel parts is a critical step in the fabrication process. Weiler color-coded power brushes will help get the job done faster, safer, and better.

Why are color-coded brushes essential for stainless steel?

Although stainless steel is chosen for its corrosion resistance, it is not immune to it. Many companies utilize both carbon and stainless steel in their manufacturing operations, and one of the biggest concerns is the potential for cross-contamination. The surface is what gives stainless steel its corrosion resistance, so it is important to properly protect it. This includes avoiding any mechanical damage, such as scratches during fabrication, that can cause passive film deterioration.

Stainless steel can become contaminated in many ways, the most frequent is by exposure to iron while using the wrong cleaning or grinding product. For example, cleaning or finishing with a carbon steel brush on stainless steel may leave a residue on the surface of the workpiece and lead to “after rust“.  The new Weiler color-coded black brushes allow users to easily identify stainless steel wire brushes and avoid cross-contamination by accidentally using a carbon steel wire brush.
